Oregon Poem: 1959

Each is given

A bag of tools,

A shapeless mass,

A book of rules.

And each must make,

‘Ere life is flown,

A stumbling block,

Or a stepping stone.

Anonymous

I learned this poem when I was a young man, age 16, working in Oregon. I have never forgotten it.
